Abstract:
Abstract: Objective To explore the application and prognosis of specific electromagnetic wave therapy apparatus for gastrointestinal dysfunction following bariatric and metabolic surgery. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 120 patients receiving bariatric and metabolic surgery at Quanzhou First Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University from January 2024 to January 2025. According to different treatment protocols, they were divided into an observation group (n=63) and a control group (n=57). The control group received conventional post-surgical care, whereas the observation group was treated with a specific electromagnetic wave therapy apparatus starting on the first postoperative day, in addition to conventional treatment. The indicators including the time to gastrointestinal function recovery (initiation of oral intake, first flatus, first defecation, and pain relief), wound care-related metrics (frequency of dressing changes, time to wound cleanliness, and time to scab formation), as well as overall wound pain and healing status were compared between the two groups. Results The observation group demonstrated significant advantages across multiple postoperative recovery indicators. Regarding gastrointestinal function recovery, the time to first oral intake, first flatus, first defecation, and pain relief were all significantly shorter in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). In terms of wound care and healing, the observation group required fewer dressing changes, and shorter time to achieve wound cleanliness and scab formation (P<0.05). Furthermore, pain scores assessed on postoperative days 1, 3, and 7 were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Superior overall wound healing evaluation was observed in the observation group than in the control group, with statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of a specific electromagnetic wave therapy apparatus effectively promotes gastrointestinal function recovery and wound healing speed in patients after bariatric and metabolic surgery.
