- Abstract:
- Abstract: Objective To prepare a composite material by combining β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) for alveolar bone repair, and to investigate its properties. Methods β-TCP and HAP were fabricated individually via the hydrothermal synthesis, followed by compositing the two materials through calcination. The prepared alveolar bone composite was analyzed with XRD and SEM, and evaluated for hydrophilicity, porosity, mechanical properties, and cytotoxicity. Results Experimental results demonstrated that the alveolar bone composite prepared from β-TCP and HAP at a ratio of 5:5 exhibited better hydrophilicity, porosity, and mechanical properties than the composites with other ratios. Most importantly, this composite material showed low toxicity. Conclusion With further development, the composite materials of β-TCP and HAP is expected to achieve significant progress in the application of alveolar bone repair and filling.
