- Abstract: Objective To compare the performances of full field digital mammography (FFDM) and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) in calcification detection, and explore the efficacy of FFDM and DBT in the diagnosis of breast diseases. Methods Ninety-seven patients treated in Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical College from June 2013 to April 2017, with calcifications detected by FFDM and DBT and pathological results, were selected in the study. According to breast imaging reporting and data system for radiographic diagnosis, the calcification score was calculated when using FFDM or COMBO (DBT combined with FFDM). Results The results of rank sum test showed significant differences in calcification scores between the two methods (P<0.05). The diagnostic efficacy of two methods in breast diseases was analyzed with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The area under the curve of two methods was greater than 0.5, which indicated that both two methods were valuable in the diagnosis of breast diseases. FFDM and COMBO had the same sensitivity (95.7%), but the specificity of COMBO was higher than that of FFDM (92% vs 76%). Conclusion Compared with FFDM, COMBO has better performances in calcification detection and improve diagnostic efficacy.
