Abstract:
With the continuous development of radiotherapy technology, the radiotherapy workflow is undergoing continuousrefinements and updates. As radiotherapy typically involves multiple treatment sessions, anatomical changes in patients mayoccur during the course of fractionated treatment, which will lead to variations in the delivered radiation dose. Comparedwith conventional photon therapy, proton therapy is more sensitive to density variations along the radiation field path. Evensmall changes in anatomy can result in significant dose perturbations, potentially affecting treatment outcomes. Adaptiveproton therapy monitors anatomical changes in patients and triggers the adjustment of treatment plans to ensure that thetumor target area receives the prescribed dose while maintaining the dose to surrounding normal tissues within prescribedlimits. The review summaries the application and development of adaptive radiotherapy in proton therapy and discusses thecurrent challenges and potential adaptive strategies, with the aim of offering valuable insights for future research and clinicalapplication of adaptive radiotherapy in adaptive proton therapy.
