- Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of reducing set-up errors in intensity-modulated radiotherapy of rectal cancer by PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Action) circulation. Methods Sixty rectal cancer patients who received intensity-modulated radiotherapy in Liuzhou Municipal Liutie Central Hospital from October 2016 to December 2020 were enrolled in the study. The reasons for large set-up errors are analyzed, and the set-up errors before and after the implementation of PDCA circulation were compared. Results There were statistical differences in set-up errors before and after the implementation of PDCA circulation which were (-1.389 4±0.426 7) mm and (-0.820 5±0.265 3) mm in X direction, (0.971 2±0.296 1) mm and (0.421 3±0.111 4) mm in Y direction, (0.712 5±0.235 6) mm and (0.469 7±0.141 3) mm in Z direction, respectively (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of PDCA circulation can effectively reduce the set-up errors in intensity-modulated radiotherapy of rectal cancer, thereby maximizing the dose concentration in the tumor target area and decreasing unnecessary irradiation of normal tissues around the tumor area.
