Abstract:
Abstract: Objective Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology can provide a new way of communication for people with physical disability, and has a good application prospect in medical rehabilitation. At present, the BCI system with single visual stimuli is difficult to be applied in the practical situation with multisensory information inputs. The effects of auditory stimuli on visual evoked potentials are needed to be further understood, thus providing a basis for the research of BCI technology under mixed audio and visual stimuli. Methods The auditory stimuli of 12 and 42 Hz were added under the conditions of flash stimuli of 12 and 42 Hz, respectively. After adding auditory stimuli under the condition of visual stimuli, the changes of electroencephalogram power at the 5 spatial points of the frontal, occipital, central, apical and temporal regions of the brain were studied. Results Under the simultaneous audiovisual stimulation, the occipital brain power was the largest, and the power of the remaining space points decreased as the increase of distance from the test point to the occipital region. Compared with the brain power at a certain point in the space under a single visual stimulus, whether the brain power was enhanced or suppressed by auditory stimulation added at this point mainly depends on the spatial location of the point. Conclusion The research results provide meaningful experimental basis for the integration of auditory and visual stimuli in BCI and the study of multi-modal BCI.
