- Abstract:
- The early intervention is an important clinical treatment to improve the prognosis of patients with cerebral infarction. In recent decades, many studies have shown that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can effectively treat patients with acute cerebral infarction through reliving cell damages in ischemic semi-dark band and restoring cellular functions. Presently, more studies are carried out to further investigate the possible molecular mechanisms of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for cerebral infarction. Herein we summarize the recent research progress on the potential mechanisms underlying hyperbaric oxygen therapy for cerebral infarction, including promoting functional recovery of neurons, inhibiting the excessive proliferation of astrocytes, regulating hemodynamics, improving brain tissue oxygen metabolism, inhibiting the release of inflammatory cytokines, and reducing the generation of oxygen free radicals.
